Midsummer Scream 2019 - Saturday
DAY 1 AT MIDSUMMER SCREAM - EVENT CONTINUES SUNDAY, AUGUST 4 On Saturday, thousands of eager fans lined up hours early to get into Midsummer Scream, the largest Halloween and horror fan convention in the world. The event started on August 3, and continues on Sunday, August 4. The event is filled with thrills, chills, and haunting fun. For the first time, Midsummer Scream occupied the entire Long Beach Convention Center, doubling the show’s size for 2019. More than 30,000 attendees will come this weekend for all things macabre.
The Hall of Shadows is always a fan favorite and where theFUNnelCakeBlog heads directly to upon entering Midsummer Scream. Tucked in the back of the main hall, the expansive darkened space features 18 walk-through experiences, displays, and slider shows performed by Decayed Brigade. The mini haunted houses and vignettes are presented by local haunters. Their love and passion for the holiday is apparent in the work they put into their displays, which are only open for two days. Despite the quick turnaround, many could easily be permanent fixtures, and each scare and experience is unique. The lines can get quite long, as each walk-through is timed for a personal experience. You could spend the good part of the day in the hall. Make sure to arrive early to get a good viewing spot for the Decayed Bridge. Their demonstration of skills is a fan favorite. Watch a clip of the show here. This year's Hall of Shadows has a tiki theme, with a special portal entry experience designed and created by CalHauntS. The facade of the Secrets of the Mist maze is incredibly detailed, and a light show with performers takes place on the hour, providing a major WOW factor for a temporary installation. Other experiences offer a trip to Salem for a witch trail, have (or be) dinner with the Killgore family, a visit the Hellsir Cemetery, a viewing of the Wicked Pumpkin Hollow, and much, much more.
The Hall of Shadows is just one part of Midsummer Scream. The main hall features hundreds of vendors promoting Halloween
attractions and events. Makeup demos and creature features draw huge crowds. Vendors sell spooky goods ranging from ever popular pins, buttons, and shirts. Artists demonstrate and offer their creative pieces. Posters, movie memorabilia, and celebrity meet and greets. Photo ops are abundant, and you never know who you are going to bump into. Costumed guests are always willing to pose for a pic. The "cast of Rocky Horror" made the rounds and everyone wanted a selfie. Classrooms offer a full curriculum on haunt, Halloween and horror education. Podcast studios are the home to interviews with the biggest names in the haunt world. Film screenings and live theatre performances entertain the crowd. The Grand Ballroom is home to large-scale panel discussions, such as Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights, which offered a glimpse into their 2019 event on Saturday. On Sunday, attendees will hear from Queen Mary's Dark Harbor, LA Haunted Hayride, and the granddaddy of them all... Knott's Scary Farm! The event continues on Sunday, August 4.
