The train at Griffith Park & Southern Railroad travels over one mile of track, across a bridge, through a forest and the Old Western Town. You can also try our T-6 simulator ride, a fun adventure for all ages! The location features three locomotives, which give rides to 164,000 riders per year, and is it in 73 year of operation!

Family owned & operated since 1972! GP Rah Enterprises, LLC operates specialty family recreation facilities under various concession contracts in Griffith Park, Los Angeles, California. It has operated the Griffith Park & Southern Railroad since 1972 and the Travel Town Railroad since 1978. It also operates a simulator ride at Griffith Park & Southern Railroad.

Weather permitting, operate 364 days a year, closing on Christmas Day only.

The Griffith Park & Southern track is about one mile long. The trains travel over several bridges, including a 60′-long wood and steel box girder bridge. It also goes through an 80′ tunnel and past several attractions, including the Western Old Town.

The Griffith Park & Southern Railroad first opened for business in 1948. It has operated continuously, except for a few years in the 1950s, ever since.
In the interest of doing a small part to improve the quality of life in Los Angeles, all of the locomotives were voluntarily converted from gasoline power to propane in 1994.

Holiday Light Festival Information:

Beginning the day after Thanksgiving, the evening train ride around the festively decorated, one-mile track. Magical scenes and tens of thousands of lights will captivate you and your family, and set the mood for a wonderful Holiday season.

Closed for lunch on weekdays for 30-45 minutes sometime between 12pm-1pm, based on crowd size.
